September LCV registrations

September LCV registrations certainly had a couple of interesting surprises in the form of Toyota and Ford but not the vans for a change, it was the pickups that made a very interesting appearance in the top 5 for the month – but who were the top selling vans and pickups?

September LCV Registrations

The September light commercial vehicle market upto 3.5 tonne GVW declined by –39.5% with 31,535 vans registered according to the latest figures released today by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) . Registrations during the month fell by double digits across all weight classes, except 4x4s, with the number of vans weighing between 2.0-2.5 tonnes seeing the largest decline, of -70.1%. The small van sector was next with a decrease of 55% followed by Pickups at -48% but this sector also produced a couple of surprises as can be seen with the top sellers section later in this article.

Registrations Year To Date

Despite the declines in September, heavier van uptake remains robust on 2020 with an increase of almost 40% compared to 2020 resulting in an extra 51,000 additional units registered and a total market that is up by 28% and 60,000 units overall.

LCV Best Sellers

What was interesting for this months registrations was that two pickups were in the top five best sellers, with the Toyota Hilux managing to beat the Ford Ranger into fourth place by just 50 units ! At the top Ford continues to dominate in both September and the year to date figures, with the Ford Transit Custom and Ford Transit, first and second respectively with the Sprinter third.
