Start with your kit and payload
Telecoms work typically needs secure storage for tools, test gear, ladders/poles, reels of cable and small parts. Don’t just look at load volume: check payload after you’ve added racking, a ply lining, roof bars and a second battery/inverter if you use one. A van that feels “big enough” can become overweight surprisingly quickly.
Body style: L1 vs L2, standard vs high roof
L1 is easier in tight streets and multi-storeys; L2 is better if you carry longer ladders internally or want more racking without blocking the side door. High-roof can help organisation, but many engineers prefer standard height with roof rack + ladder lift to keep overall height manageable.
Powertrain: diesel or electric?

Two quick checks before you order
1) Licence/weights: most vans are fine on a standard Category B licence up to 3,500kg GVW. Some electric vans use higher GVW allowances, but rules and eligibility can be nuanced — confirm for your drivers.
2) Insurance and security: telecoms vans are theft targets. Consider factory deadlocks, slamlocks (if appropriate), alarm upgrades and internal tool vaults.
