KGM Musso EV UK: The Electric Pickup Redefining a Tough Market

The pick-up truck market has been one of the slowest to go electric. Right now, UK buyers looking for a zero-emission truck have a pretty short list… the Maxus T90 EV and the soon-to-arrive Isuzu D-Max EV, which manages just 163 miles of range. But KGM Motors (the company formerly known as SsangYong) believes it can do better. Its new Musso EV is a clean-sheet, all-electric pickup that shares little more than its name with the diesel model — and promises a more refined, road-focused take on the electric truck formula.

A New Kind of Pickup

The Musso EV is based on the Torres EVX SUV, not a ladder-frame truck chassis, so it behaves far more like a car than a workhorse. That gives it a smoother, more composed feel on tarmac, positioning it as a lifestyle pickup rather than a heavy-duty hauler. KGM first showcased the truck at the SupBikeRun triathlon in Cumbria, where early prototypes were tested publicly. Drivers praised its quiet ride and comfort — clear signs this is aimed at buyers who value refinement over ruggedness.

Electric Powertrain and Real-World Performance

Power comes from an 80.6kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, good for an official range of around 235 miles. That puts it slightly ahead of the Maxus T90 EV (220 miles) and well clear of the Isuzu D-Max EV (163 miles). Twin electric motors produce 204hp and 339Nm of torque, giving the Musso EV brisk acceleration — 0–62mph in around 8 seconds, making it faster than any other commercial pickup and nearly as quick as the Ford Ranger Raptor.

An all-wheel drive system automatically sends torque to the axle with the most grip, making it secure and predictable even on damp rural roads. Ground clearance is 181mm, with approach and departure angles of 20.2° and 24.3°, so it’ll manage light off-roading or farm tracks — just don’t expect hardcore terrain ability.

Charging is competitive too: plug into a 120kW DC charger, and it’ll go from 10–80% in about 36 minutes.

Design, Comfort, and Interior Tech

Inside, the Musso EV feels more premium SUV than pickup. There’s space for four adults, an upright driving position, and plenty of visibility. The dashboard features a curved display with dual 12.3-inch screens — one for driver instruments, one for infotainment — framed in bronze and copper trim that feels surprisingly upmarket.

Luxury touches include Nappa leather seats, both heated and ventilated, plus a heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, 360-degree camera, and built-in TomTom navigation with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. The rear bumper integrates steps for easy bed access, while self-levelling suspension helps maintain stability under load.

Practicality and Payload Limits

Here’s where it’s clear the Musso EV isn’t built for the construction site. Its payload capacity is 690kg — well under the 1-tonne threshold that normally qualifies pickups for commercial tax benefits — and towing capacity tops out at 1,800kg. That’s fine for small trailers or garden gear but well below diesel alternatives that can tow up to 3.5 tonnes.

The load bed itself measures 1,345mm long, 1,515mm wide, and 510mm deep, slightly shorter than a Ford Ranger but within the class norm for width and depth.

A Lifestyle Pickup With EV Smarts

The KGM Musso EV isn’t built to replace your diesel workhorse — but that’s not the point. It’s aimed at drivers and small businesses who want pickup practicality without the noise, emissions, or tax burden of combustion engines.

With strong performance, respectable range, and an impressively plush interior, it’s arguably the most convincing electric pickup yet for urban and suburban users. If KGM can deliver it at the right price — and smooth out those tech quirks — the Musso EV could easily become the go-to choice for lifestyle buyers and eco-minded fleets when it lands in the UK in late 2025 or early 2026.
