Citroen e-Relay goes electric

The Citroën Relay, the largest van in their LCV line-up, will be the next model to be ‘electrified’ in the Citroen range and customers will have the option of two battery sizes with prices starting from £49,335 (after the Government Plug-in-Van Grant is applied, excluding VAT). It will be available in the well known ‘Enterprise’ trim, and can be ordered as a Panel Van, Window Van or Chassis Cab.

Batteries / Range

The Citroen e-Relay’s two Lithium-ion battery packs start with a 37kWh battery with a WLTP certified range of up to 73 miles and it’s available ONLY on the L2 wheelbase and its connected to a 120hp (90kW) electric motor. This motor also powers the larger 70kWh battery and this is available exclusively on the L3 and L4 wheelbases and this battery improves the range under WLTP testing from 73 miles to 139 miles. The 37kWh and 70kWh batteries in the new ë-Relay are covered by an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty.

Charging

All new Citroën ë-Relay models feature a Type 2 charging cable as standard, supporting charging up to 22kW. A full charge from a 7kW wallbox unit will take 6 and 12 hours respectively for the 37kWh and 70kWh versions. Both battery packs also support up to 50kW rapid charging.

As mentioned in the introduction the ë-Relay vans come in just one trim level ‘Enterprise’ version as standard and this includes :

  • 5-inch colour touchscreen
  • DAB radio and integrated satellite navigation
  • Air conditioning and a perimetric alarm.
  • Rear parking sensors
  • Rear view mirror (exclusive to electric versions), displaying key information including battery charge level and range.

Year To Date

As far as the year to date figures are concerned, 157,150 vans have been registered so far in 2021, performance year to date is the highest on record, almost double what it was in 2020 (up 99.3%), and up 4.0% on a pre-pandemic five-year average. Once again the 2.5-3.5 tonne GVW sector leads the way with 104,061 registrations and quickly establishing its dominance as the major sector in the industry.
