Renault 4 E-Tech Becomes a Compact Electric Van

A Modern Take on a Renault Classic

You might remember the Renault 4 van from way back—proper old-school and a real favourite with tradesfolk across Europe. The new E-Tech version keeps that charm but adds 21st-century tech. Renault says the idea is to bring the old icon back without losing what made it special, mixing retro looks with all the mod cons.

It’s clearly built with city life in mind—ideal for things like local deliveries, small businesses and getting through tight streets without the diesel guilt. Compact, clean, and pretty handy for urban runs.

Power, Range and Charging Options

They’ve brought out two versions in France:

  • Starter model: 118 bhp, 40 kWh battery, 191 miles WLTP range.

  • Beefier model: 148 bhp, 52 kWh battery, 254 miles WLTP range.

Charging:

  • 11 kW AC onboard charger (standard).

  • V2L capability (power tools or gear directly from the van).

  • DC charging: up to 80 kW on the smaller battery, up to 100 kW on the larger one.

  • 10–80% charge in roughly 35–40 minutes.

If you’re buzzing around town all day and don’t want long breaks stuck at a charger, this setup could work really well.

Built on Shared AmpR Small Platform

Underneath, it rides on the AmpR Small platform—the same one used by the Renault 5 E-Tech hatch. It’s built in Maubeuge, France, at Renault’s ElectriCity EV factory.

  • Payload: 375 kg

  • Boot space: 1,045 litres

  • Extra storage: 55-litre underfloor compartment (ideal for tools or charge cables)

For business users, extras include a grid-style bulkhead, anti-slip floor mat, and upgraded load-area locking.

Pricing and Availability

  • France: Starts at €29,300 before VAT.

  • UK pricing: Not yet confirmed, but with the SUV version starting at £26,995, that gives us a ballpark.

Renault is offering a £150 R Pass for early interest. It acts like a pre-order and includes three years of free servicing through Mobilize Financial Services—though that only applies if the van launches in the UK.

For now, the UK version is only “under evaluation.” Still, businesses and fleet buyers are watching closely.

It’s a “watch this space” situation. With old-school looks, modern electric power, and practical design, it could become a popular urban choice. Whether it lands in the UK will depend on demand, incentives, and how much fleet interest it generates as electric van options expand.
