Toyota Proace Max: Versatile Large Van Unveiled

Toyota has recently expanded its commercial vehicle range with the introduction of the Proace Max, a large van that marks the company’s entry into this segment. The Proace Max is the third model in the Proace lineup, following the medium-sized Proace and the smaller Proace City. This new van, produced in collaboration with Citroen, Fiat, Peugeot, and Vauxhall, shares its platform with the Citroen Relay, Fiat Ducato, Peugeot Boxer, and Vauxhall Movano.

The Proace Max comes in four sizes, based on two wheelbase options, three body lengths, and two heights. Its cargo area varies from 11 to 17 cubic meters, accommodating up to five Euro pallets. Additionally, the Proace Max is available in specialized configurations like a one-way tipper, dropside, and a seven-seat Crew Cab version. The panel vans can carry up to 2270kg, with a maximum towing capacity of up to 3000kg. Electric models can carry 1800kg and tow up to 2000kg.

The diesel-powered Proace Max features a 2.2-liter 138bhp engine, while the electric version boasts 268bhp and a range of up to 261 miles on a single charge. This range surpasses that of the current favorite electric van, the Ford E-Transit. The 110kWh battery in the electric version can be charged from 0-80% in 55 minutes using a 150kW charger.

In terms of technology, higher-spec versions of the Proace Max include Toyota’s latest infotainment system with a 10-inch touchscreen, embedded SIM card for constant connectivity, cloud-based navigation with real-time traffic updates, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and remote vehicle control via a smartphone app.

While Toyota has not yet disclosed the pricing for the Proace Max, it is anticipated to be similar to its sister models, with entry-level models likely starting at around £30,000 and electric versions closer to £60,000.

The Proace Max stands out for its size, load-carrying capabilities, and the option of zero-emission electric powertrains. It forms part of Toyota’s strategy to offer a comprehensive range of light commercial vehicles, catering to a variety of business needs and contributing to sustainable mobility solutions.
