VWCV Sales drop in 2021

In 2021 Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles sales totalled 359,500 vehicles which was a year-on-year drop of 3.2 per cent with the Transporter ( T Series) accounting for almost half the sales throughout the world.

Bucking the trend of the group sales, the T series numbers rose by 14.8 per cent to a total of 166,400 vehicles. with demand particularly high for the California 6.1, with units shipped rising by 20.2 per cent to 19,300. With the New Multivan, the year also saw the unveiling of the seventh generation of the popular family MPV, which was supplied to dealers in the fourth quarter. Based on the Volkswagen Group’s modular electric drive matrix, the New Multivan is being offered for the first time as a plug-in hybrid version as well. By the end of the year, there were 13,500 orders on the books.

Caddy

The recently launched new Caddwas especially hard hit last year with the number of the popular city delivery vans shipped fell by 24.5 per cent to 85,200 units, which is a significant volume reduction mainly as a result of the semic-conductor crisis. However, orders received for the new Caddy saw a 21.3 per cent year-on-year rise, providing impressive evidence of the vehicle’s popularity with both private and business customers.

Amarok

Of course the Amarok is no longer available on these shores but like many other pickups models available from other manufacturers it still continues to be sold in non- Euro 6 markets. It is currently manufactured in Argentina and accordingly fell back to 45,400 units supplied to customers (previous year 52,100). But you don’t have to be wait too long for the replacement Amarok which is a joint venture with Ford as it will be launched in Summer this year.

Crafter

The Crafter total of units shipped last year was 62,300 (previous year 61,700) of which the all-electric eCrafter vehicles rose to 1,500 units (+ 29.4 per cent).

Electric

Across the board, the number of electrified commercial vehicles supplied to customers went up again in 2021 with 2020 it was 2,700 and this figure rose last year by 35.1 per cent to 3,600. With the world première of the ID. Buzz on 9 March, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will be taking another systematic step forward on the path to electric mobility.

Western Europe

The number of vehicles supplied here to customers by VWCV was 248,700 (previous year 264,900). At 91,000 vehicles (101,000), Germany remains by far VWCV’s strongest market, followed by Great Britain at 36,800 (36,500) and France at 15,300 (15,900) units.

“While we were almost able to maintain our previous year’s level in terms of units shipped, we are seeing very high, growing demand for our vehicles”, explains Lars Krause, Brand Board of Management Member for Sales and Marketing at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. “Last year alone orders received went up nearly 20 per cent compared to the year before. That’s a strong result for VWCV. Our main task for the coming months is therefore to continue during this tough production situation to work through fulfilling our high number of orders.
