Toyota Proace Verso Electric Review
What is it?

The Toyota Proace Verso Electric is a van-based people carrier designed for those who need plenty of seats, lots of space, and an electric powertrain. It’s built for large families, airport transfers, and shuttle services rather than driving enthusiasts, but it does offer practical benefits with its zero-emission running and low running costs.
Performance & Range
Toyota has upgraded the Proace Verso Electric’s battery, replacing the old 50kWh unit with a 75kWh battery, increasing the official range to 214 miles. However, with a full load of seven to nine passengers and their luggage, real-world range is likely to be lower.
The 136hp electric motor provides adequate performance for everyday driving, though acceleration is leisurely compared to smaller electric vehicles. The Proace Verso is front-wheel drive and comes with three driving modes – Normal, Eco, and Power – to balance energy efficiency and responsiveness.
Charging is relatively quick for a large electric vehicle. It supports 100kW DC fast charging, allowing a 10-80% top-up in around 45 minutes. A full charge on an AC home charger will take about 7.5 hours.

Comfort & Interior Features
Toyota has improved the cabin quality, but it remains functional rather than luxurious. The standard equipment includes:
- 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Digital instrument cluster
- Heated driver’s seat
- Rear parking sensors
- Auto-dimming rear-view mirror
The high-spec Excel model adds leather seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory settings, front seat massage function, a 180-degree parking camera, and a 10-speaker audio system.

Driving Experience
The Proace Verso Electric is comfortable and easy to drive but not particularly engaging. The high driving position provides a good view of the road, and the electric motor delivers smooth, quiet progress around town. However, the van-based underpinnings mean it can feel heavy and less refined on the motorway, with some noticeable body roll in corners.
Compared to alternatives like the Ford E-Tourneo Custom, the Proace Verso Electric isn’t the most dynamic option, but it makes up for it with practicality and an improved electric range.

Practicality
The Proace Verso Electric comes in two body lengths:
- L1 (4,983mm) – seats up to eight people (two front seats, two rows of three)
- L2 (5,333mm) – adds an extra seat in the front, allowing for nine passengers
Inside, the flexible seating arrangement allows the rear seats to slide, fold, and be removed, making it adaptable for passenger or cargo needs. With all seats in place, boot space varies from 700 to 1,300 litres, depending on configuration. The long-wheelbase version offers up to 977 litres of luggage capacity.
For families, there are multiple ISOFIX points for child seats, and the electrically operated sliding side doors make it easy to access the rear seats, especially in tight parking spaces.

Verdict
The Toyota Proace Verso Electric is a practical and spacious MPV with the benefit of zero-emission driving. It’s best suited for businesses, large families, and shuttle services rather than those seeking a fun-to-drive people carrier. While it’s not the cheapest option in its class, the low running costs and flexible seating make it a strong choice for those who need a large electric vehicle.
