Most reliable vans 2018

Reliability is a major concern for owners when it comes to vans, especially for owner-operators. Every minute the vehicle is off the road is another minute its not making money, and so having a reliable van is paramount. In this article, we present you with the Top 5 Most Reliable Vans of 2018.

The survey was carried out by Fleet News on its 50 readers that had the largest fleets.

N.B. The Ford Transit Custom, which has been one of the most reliable vans over recent years, has dropped out of the Top 10 due to faults with the new 2.0-litre Ecoblue engine.

10 – Vauxhall Combo

The Turkish-built Vauxhall Combo is based on the Fiat Doblo and, despite Fiat’s problems of the past, both vehicles have very few reported faults.

9 – Citroen Berlingo

While the Citroen Berlingo may be looking a little long in the tooth, there’s no faulting its reliability as it has featured in the Top 10 most reliable vans.

8 – Peugeot Partner

The Peugeot Partner ranks alongside its Berlingo sibling in eighth place – which isn’t surprising considering they’re almost identical apart from the grille, bumper design and headlights.

7 – Renault Trafic

Renault’s medium van took a huge leap in the reliability survey, rising from a mediocre 13th place in last year’s ranking to a respectable 7th place.

6 – Mercedes-Benz Vito

The Spanish-built Vito has come a long way since the first-generation models, which were plagued with rust and electric problems. This year, the Vito climbed another place into sixth place.

5 – Vauxhall Vivaro

Despite sharing the same design as the Trafic, the Vivaro is manufactured in Britain and benefits from a higher build quality than its French sibling.

4 – Ford Transit

Despite the Transit Connect and Transit Custom dropping out of the Top 10 this year, the larger Ford Transit remains. The engine has affected the Transit, but great built quality elsewhere has kept it in it.

3 – Volkswagen Transporter

The DPF problems seem to be behind the Transporter, finishing an impressive third position. The reliability is one of the main reasons why residual values are so high.

2 – Volkswagen Caddy

Volkswagen’s smallest van, the Caddy, had the biggest results. The key to the Caddy’s success has been consistency; there hasn’t been a major overhaul since the third-generation was launched in 2003.

Most reliable van UK – Mercedes-Benz Sprinter

Claiming its title of the UK’s most reliable van for the third-year running is the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. The body, chassis and electrical components have never had any major problems, while the rust issue seems to be a distant memory.
